Osborn Answers Governor’s Call to Cut
Treasurer cuts budget double digits
Lincoln, Neb. – State Treasurer Shane Osborn announced today he will meet the budget adjustments proposed by Governor Dave Heineman for the upcoming special session.
“Nebraskans by nature are cautious and prudent with their pocketbooks; it’s time government do the same,” Osborn said.
“The Governor has shown tremendous leadership during these difficult times, and I’m happy to answer his call for fiscal responsibility.”
Osborn’s plan includes:
- eliminating vacant positions and consolidating job responsibilities.
- increasing the number of custodial parents who receive their child support billing statement electronically.
- re-evaluating existing service contracts.
A total savings of 3.32% for the current fiscal year and a savings of 5.86% for the fiscal year beginning July 1st of 2010.
Since taking office in 2007, Osborn has made reducing the State Treasurer’s budget his top priority. Osborn has cut the Treasurer’s budget by 11.88%.
