Aging with Dignity: It’s Your Choice
NET To Air Program Dedicated to Long-Term Care Awareness
Lincoln, Neb. – On Thursday, October 15, 2009, Nebraska Educational Television (NET) will air Aging with Dignity: It’s Your Choice, a 60-minute program that examines “issues related to growing old, such as financial security, health care and end of life.”
The program will feature State Treasurer Shane Osborn discussing the Nebraska Long-Term Care Savings Plan and how it can assist individuals plan for eventual long-term care needs associated with living a long life.
“I would just like to thank the good people at NET for their hours of hard work and commitment towards this program,” Treasurer Osborn said. “This was truly a collaborative effort and I appreciate the other representatives from the Lincoln Area Agency on Aging, the Nebraska Department of Insurance, the Nebraska Association of Health Care Underwriters, and Nebraska Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors who contributed their time and expertise.”
“The Nebraska Long-Term Care Savings Plan represents smart public policy that promotes self-reliance and individual responsibility,” Osborn said. “We are the only state in the nation to actually offer incentives to both save and pay for future long-term care expenses, including insurance premiums. By planning ahead, individuals can save their assets and income for uses other than long-term care and preserve the quality of life for their spouse or loved ones.”
“I believe Aging with Dignity can help us engage other states in the long-term care issue and eventually they will begin to draft similar versions of this program for their own citizens,” Osborn said. “With other states on board we will then be in a position to appeal to lawmakers on Capitol Hill and push for federal tax benefits.”
