BE READY OMAHA: TREASURER OSBORN TO KNOCK ON DOORS GIVING BACK $530K

Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn has once again found a new way to locate the owners of unclaimed property. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, between 9am and 11am, Treasurer Osborn has found the correct addresses of unsuspecting Omaha residents who have unclaimed property and will be knocking on their doors to give back over $530,000 in unclaimed money.

“After we absolutely shattered the previous unclaimed property record, I knew we would have to add another innovative dimension to our program if we wanted a realistic shot at topping what we accomplished last year,” Treasurer Osborn said. “So, we decided to make the process even easier: I’ll just come and knock on your door.”

“This new program has been incredibly successful. Already, my Unclaimed Property specialists have knocked on over 100 doors across the state and given back more than $1 million in property that may not have been returned otherwise.”

As a result, the door-to-door campaign has helped Treasurer Osborn return $13.4 million in unclaimed property and, in the process, break his own record from 2007.

“While setting a new record is extremely satisfying, the most rewarding part of this new program is that it gives me the chance to surprise people at their home,” Osborn said. “These are some tough economic times, so once people get over the initial shock of seeing me at their door with a check in my hand, they tell me how that money will go towards buying groceries, or repairing their car, or paying off a credit card.”
